2008 Illinois State Championships

Dear backgammon players,

Please consider this your official invitation to attend the 2008 Illinois State Backgammon Championships! The tournament will be held October 10-12 at the Ramada Inn @ Northwoods Mall in Peoria, Illinois.

The tournament committee has worked hard to make this year's event bigger and better. A few changes worth noting:

New Hotel - The Ramada Inn @ Northwoods Mall is 3 miles north of downtown Peoria, directly across from one of the largest malls in downstate Illinois and close to dozens of restaurants. A free buffet breakfast is included with every room; free wireless Internet available throughout the hotel; free coffee available 24 hours. Free shuttle to Peoria International Airport, Paradice Casino and other local attractions.

Recording-friendly tournament - Players interested in recording matches will be able to set up cameras in a reserved area specifically set aside to protect their equipment.

Clocks - Clocks will be instituted promptly to eliminate any delays (three 2nd round matches were clocked in the 2007 Illinois tournament). Players are welcome to bring clocks and invite opponents to play clocked matches voluntarily.

Larger playing room - The Ramada offers a considerably larger playing room than our previous hotel.

Staff - Mary Ann Meese will bring her extensive tournament directing experience to our staff this year, which includes veterans Dru Heggen, Sue Will and Jim Zinkhon. Auctioneers extraordinaire Phil Simborg and Michael Plog will keep the Calcutta auction pace moving and the entertainment lively.
