OT: question on buying a monitor

I'm looking into buying a monitor to use as an extended desktop for my laptop. (More porno). I seem to be finding plenty of decent options for under $200 -- 22 inch Samsungs, Acer, etc.

Although I'd be happy to hear advice on brands, what I really want to know is this: DVI vs. HDMI input. Is HDMI better (I think so, but I'm not sure why), and is it worth paying more?
