Doubling as the leader

Wondering if anyone knows of any good info on this subject--articles, match analysis, etc.
It is relatively easy to calculate the trailer's TP, for contact-free positions like races and holding games and the like, and adjust your cube play accordingly. I am finding it more difficult to determine when to offer a cube when, say, playing against a badly timed back game at -3, -8, or -3, -6, or -4, -9 or something. If it isn't clearly TG/P or clearly ND/T it gives me problems. At -2 you should probably leave the cube alone until gammon chances have evaporated, but not so at -3 or -4.
