Some impressions from GNUbg 2008 database

This year (2008) I played online at FIBS and live in Austrian Masters monthly tournaments vs ~ 100 players (135 exactly). I put all those matches in GNUbg database which is nice tool to monitor improvement in ER. It calculates average error rate for all players in database. Off course it is not statistical significant because all those players has only few matches into database (only I have all 135,lol) but it could be interesting to see players strenght.

For this moment I will count number of players in each category. OK, best player with the lowest average ER is ... you guess ... Stick with 2.26! The worse player has: 16.55 There are only 4 players which play worse than 15.00 so it could be fine border to divide Beginners from Novice. Also there are almost the same numbers of players in first three category (22) and Advanced (25) which should correspond, IMHO, to Open and Advanced divisions on live tournaments. Intermediate group of players has 45 players and in that group there are few players who played on live tournaments in Advanced divisions. Beginners are, hm, real beginners. Have enough room for improvement.

2.00-2.99 = Grand Master = 5 players

3.00-3.99 = World class = 5 players

4.00-4.99 = Expert = 12 players

5.00-6.99 = Advanced = 25 players

7.00-9.99 = Intermediate = 45 players

10.00-14.99 = Beginners = 29 players

15.00- = Novice = 4 players
