I thought it was time to start a new thread to this post.

First of all, 6 isn't that bad. It would be terrible for Stick and it would be disappointing to many. But, anyone averaging 6 is doing a lot of things right. Of course you want to improve on that rather than being satisfied with it.
A lot of people will disagree with me on this. But, I think you should first learn to play the game and then learn to play your opponent. You can't capitalize on your opponent's mistakes until you can recognize them as mistakes. I agree with your comment.
If you learn new things you will improve, probably quickly. When I say learn, I mean understand. I'm not a big beliver in memorizing. You have isolated some of your weaknesses. Go to work on them. Take a position you failed to double and figure out why it isn't right to wait. Repetitive play of a single position is an excellent way to learn. That's how the pros did it before there were bots to do the work. I think it is better to spend a lot of time learning one thing than to try to learn 10 things spending only a little time on each.
We had a good exchange on this topic a little over a year ago. Here's the link to my post at that time.
