Duplicate backgammon?

Has anyone ever tried duplicate backgammon? That is, people play in teams of two. A set of rolls is secretly generated in advance by the tournament director, and two games are played in parallel with the same rolls, with the members of a team playing opposite halves of the roll sequence.

Ignoring the logistical problems of implementing duplicate backgammon, would duplicate backgammon significantly increase the skill/luck ratio or not? For annoying sequences like "52S 55 dance" it seems that duplicate backgammon would be a big plus, but perhaps in practice, the two parallel games would diverge too quickly for the duplicate rolls to make much difference.
