When I returned to the (Indiana) university scene in 1982 there was an intramural backgammon event (one-on-one, not teams). Kinda funny -- when I asked at the intramural office what the contest was to be (matchplay? money play to certain point total? Freeze out? Cubeful?) they had no answer for me. So my first opponent and I just negotiated a contest. (I lost :(.

Bridge back then had local qualifying for a regional and eventually national competition to crown the best US college student bridge pair. (Run by Association of College Unions or something like that.) Don't know if they still do that. I don't think BG got past the local level but I really wasn't that involved so I can't say much on that front.
