Note that this is just my suggestion and warnings to stop the pedantic fighting about trivialities that have prevented both worldwide and national BG cooperation for 3+ decades

Neil, while I appreciate your concerns and your warnings, and greatly respect your opinions, I am sure than any time anyone makes a suggestion to change anything there will be dissenters. If someone makes a suggestion that nothing should be changed, there will be dissenters. People have different agendas. Different opinions. And some just argue to argue, or because of their ego, or because the idea wasn't their idea. That is the nature of life...we cannot let that paralyze us into doing nothing.
We have a lovely game and nice tournaments and good rules and all kinds of wonderful things going for backgammon. But they can all be improved, and EVERY one of those improvements will come with some people who don't believe they are improvements at all.
Grow the game by bringing in more youth? Some people hate that idea...they don't think backgammon is good for kids and don't want them around when they are playing.
Lower the cost of tournaments to make them more popular? Some people would rather raise the cost to make them more exciting and profitable.
Encourage tournaments to schedule so that they don't conflict? Some people think that kind of competition is good and will force the survival of the fittest.
Have the player set the rules and standards instead of the tournament directors? People argue this is big government.
There is going to be bickering no matter what we do...but we still should do SOMETHING. We should still try to grow and promote the game, even if some criticize and disagree. The alternative is to simply condemn everyone for disagreeing and do nothing. Where will that get us?
