Clock Question

In our local tournaments we are playing "clocks optional" with no penalty so that people get used to the mechanics. In our last tournament, my opponent and I decided to take a 5 minute break, stopped the clocks and took the break. When we returned to the table my clock was running. I do not know if someone bumped it, we really did not stop it or what happened. It was no big deal because of "no penalty" but what should happen here? I have no clue how much time was on my clock when I started the break.
