Popularizing Backgammon

Hi Folks,
Steve Schreiber - enthusiastic reader (lurker?) here.
Someone might have said this earlier in the thread but I didn't see it in a quick scan.
A number of years ago in Japan, two comic artists (Manga in Japan) produced a long series of stories about a young boy who discovers the game of Go. The series is called Hikaru No Go. It was then followed up with an actual anime release which you can buy today.
This boosted Go popularity among children and teenagers massively in Japan.
We need "Stanley No Backgame" or the equivalent. Tie it in with some merchandising - a thematically related board for example, or an iPhone app to keep score, or thematic baffle boxes - and we're on our way to attracting the younger generation.
Once this level of popular media has taken it's course, it might be enough to bring it into the schools (an excellent vehicle for teaching the mathematics of probability and statistics) which is what really helped chess.
- Steve
