7/4 increases dance chances, but also leaves 7 return shots.

6 returns, actually, 9 fewer than if you leave the 4pt slotted.

12/9 adds another builder to cover the 4 point

The question, to me, is whether holding the five prime is worth 9 additional shots. It doesn't feel like it to me.

17/14 adds another checker to give double shot chances if white follows with a 46.

I'm going to play 17/14 here as I think 7/4 is too loose.

7/4 leaves fewer shots, so it's not looser in that sense--but perhaps you're thinking that giving up the five prime makes it so.

Between 17/14 and 12/9, which is more important: creating covers for the 4pt or guarding against White's 46 joker? I'd go with creating covers, so I prefer 12/9 over 17/14

But I think my containment chances are greater if I just make the 4pt now and play from there.

10/4 8/4
