I guess my point is that opp has very few good things to do to improve his position other than unstack. If you split and get away with it what have you accomplished? Opp's plan, whether he improves his position or not, is still to unstack his checkers. If you anchor you are racing from behind, if you don't anchor you are forever threatened by getting unloaded upon by 10+ in the zone.

If you slot and get away with it you are well behind in the race but you are in good shape to prime. If you slot and get hit you are basically falling back into a holding game/back game but you still have an anchor and opp has to forgo making progress on his side of the board if he hits.
