Behind in the race, anchored, more men back, better board - Mr Magriel isn't whispering "bold" in my ear, he's screaming. But how?

There's no good tactical reason to hit on the ace, save that it's the only decent five after 13/11, which nicely covers the outfield.

8/1* has clearly inferior distribution, 13/7 looks too passive, and 20/13 looks like the wrong approach entirely.

13/8 6/4 is the only respectable alternative to hitting. It starts a better point but allows White to play freely.

I'm not a big fan of loose hits on the ace, but I think it's the best option. 13/11 6/1*.
