That's a good system for $1000.

The important thing for eXtreme Gammon speed (Or any BG program for that matter) is almost only the CPU.

Version 1.10 (coming very soon) will take advantage of all your cores. So a core i7 is surely the way to go (on your proposed system you should be around 1,650,000 positions per seconds using 1.10)

The CPU frequency increases the throughput lineary: if you get a core i7-960 (3.2 GHz) you'll get a 20% increase compare to the 920 (2.66 GHz) . For core i7-975 (3.33 GHz) you get 25% increase.

It's up to you to see if the price of the CPU is worth (the 975 retails at $995!!!). Overclocking is cheaper, but you need to know what you are doing. (one of the beta tester overclocked his core i7 920 to 3.75 GHz and got 2,209,572 pos/s)

Memory speed has a small effect on speed. For Rollout, using a large cache can increase performance by a good 15%. Your 12 GB are far from enough (I dont think i've yet maxed out my 6GB).
