A solution to one tournament problem

In Response To: A solution to one tournament problem (Tom Keith)

I am all for kibitzers pointing out what appears to be an error in match length on scorecards - particularly when they see two scorecards with different match lengths or even worse - different scores.

But I don't think this problem is common enough to warrant the other methods. What if players are given or take the wrong scoresheet? Why be forced to shorten later rounds just because there is a 0.1% chance that the players will screw up? It replaces one problem with another.

First and foremost, players are obligated to check the drawsheet. BOTH PLAYERS. I suspect that a good part of the time this problem occurs because one player gets it wrong and then tells the opponent who doesn't bother to verify.

Also, I feel that there is no harm done to the event if two players screw up and play a match that is shorter than required. Only the players are potentially impacted by their error. The greater concern is when players set off to play a match that is longer than required.
