I think you just play safe (9/3 7/5) with the idea of continuing to play on/cashing if White dances/enters. 12/6 and 9/7 has the dnside of being hit with D4 and very little (if any) upside. Your gammon chances aren't that great here - only around 15% or so and I'm pretty sure your losing chances are well over half that when White enters which makes cashing correct.
