This Thursday at 2:45 pm in room F411 of Community College of Baltimore County I am giving a talk about examples from backgammon I have used to illustrate concepts of mathematics. I will talk about the examples, how they are rel life problems to a serious backgammon player, and also go one step beyond what I would dare do in a class of Freshmen and Sophomores. A few examples include use of symmetry in pipcounting, dice probabilities, simple win probabilities in bearoffs, how many bearoff positions are possible, how a race can be calculated recursively, and confidence intervals obtained from rollout data.
It is being video taped, if I figure out how to do it I should be able to post it somewhere.
