In Response To: lynch mob mentality? (Chuck Bower)

I stick by my position that the standards of evidence for protecting a community from civil improprieties perpetrated by its members are looser than the standards for convicting people of criminal acts. This kind of difference in standards is supported by the US legal system. The legal standards for obtaining a civil judgment against someone in court are far looser than for obtaining a criminal judgment. One needs to only meet the standard of "more likely than not" in a civil case, while "beyond a reasonable doubt" in a criminal case. The discussion here is civil, not criminal.

I was not passing judgment in this particular case. I was clear in my post that the only thing we knew for sure (at the time) is Stick's opinion. I was only stating that I believed it was reasonable given what he knew for Stick to come forward and raise the issue. And nothing I have heard thus far has convinced me otherwise.
