In Response To: lynch mob mentality? (Chuck Bower)

Yes, Chuck, I made the same connection, and I appreciate how articulately you expressed it. I'm normally shy speaking up on such issues, but I didn't want you to feel alone after having the courage to pen your convictions.

The only point with which I didn't resonate was, "So I guess everyone is supposed to do a daily check of the internet to see if anyone has sullied his/her name?" The "If he's not guilty, he'll speak up" sentiment was expressed early on and perhaps "eventually" should have been additionally stated rather than implied, but surely by now PJT has been aware of the bgonline threads even if only through Alex (if they have spent most of their time together, as Alex claimed), and long enough to prepare a statement if he so chooses.

Should PJT publicly respond? I can relate to introversion and the feeling that an answer will only spark a thousand more questions (I'm on Tiger's side in that respect), and to the resentment PJT may feel by the besmirchment of his reputation and at the manner in which accusations were leveled, but if I were in his shoes and innocent (beyond, say, the failure to make an effort to stop Alex), having reached this point, I would nonetheless feel it was strongly in my interest to make a statement. (OTOH, I can't assume that PJT would do as I would do.)

At the same time, it seems that no sheriff exists in this situation, and I can relate to the feeling of frustration and outrage of the so-called lynch mob respondents. So, while I feel uncomfortable with the extent of the semi-blind verbal attacks upon PJT at this point, I cannot characterize them as wholly unreasonable.

Just so that there is no misunderstanding, I hold Stick in high esteem. If he researched the situation to the extent that he really did "know" PJT is guilty (if he is) at the time he made the scandal public and this is not a matter of overexuberance (followed by getting either lucky if the assertion holds up or unlucky if it doesn't), then I don't see he did anything wrong. In any case, I'm grateful that he greatly increased awareness of the scandal.
