Hyperthreading looks like an extra core but it is not. The processor use the asme core for 2 thread and use the 4 pipelines to interleave both threads.
So typicaly you gain about 1.3 over a non HT core. for the core i7 it means you get the equivalent of 4x1.3 so 5.2 cores.
The core i7 is also 10% faster on a single thread (tick for tick) than the Quad.
