I think my feeling on the subject is that if you are a spectator, you should follow the rule and keep your mouth shut. But as I already stated, I believe that there are some common sense exceptions to this. But if a spectator has any doubt whatsoever as to whether it is right to speak in a given situation, they should remain silent or contact the director.

Just to be clear, it is always feasible to call the director. I just think it is sometimes unnecessary.

I personally feel that any error in initial equipment set-up or inconsistency in scoresheets should be pointed out.

Some may not agree with me, but I honestly think that if you see a player in the act of illegally switching dice, it should be raised on the spot in front of as many witnesses as possible before the evidence disappears.

I believe that if BOTH players explicitly ask you for your opinion on the facts in case of dispute or uncertainty, that you should be able to answer them without summoning the director. The rules do not explicitly permit this either, and may even be read to specifically prohibit it (6.2. ...Spectators shall only testify at the Director's request.), but this is just another case of common sense. I bet even Gregg would concede this last one is a valid exception.
