Over the board thoughts

In Response To: Play 5-2 baring in. (Frank_N_Stein)

I was playing fast and did not completely think this through, hence the real problem. Quickly, I counted the crossovers and found out he needed 13 with a gap on the 2 point that could add a roll. I needed 15 crossovers and felt I could win the race if I do not leave shots.

This left me two choices; play safe to the three point and bare off faster than my opp, or bring them uneven to the high points and possibly leave shots with big doubles or 6-5. If I left a shot and it was hit I could lose the race.

I placed to much value on leaving a shot quickly and chose the safe play going to the 3 point thinking I could outrace my opp if he did not roll great. I was surprised to see the .08 ding on snowie 3ply.

Looking back at it now I can see the value of bringing the spares to the high points and risking the shots. Also, I put to much value in the gap on their 2 point. They can handle one miss easy and they could play 3-2 with a 1 when bringing the checker home.

Thankfully it did not cost me the game.
