Now then, you've arrived here after having looked at the cube decision. It may well be that you think the cube decision is trivial, and it might be. I'm going to use a fairly simple criterion for deciding where we should consider a cube. Kit always says, "Every roll is a cube decision." I've tried to incorporate that into my game. Many many positions are very obvious no doubles, and you don't REALLY have to think about it.
A position like this (before the dice are rolled) is a position that, OTB, I would stop and take a glance at before throwing the dice. There are definite threats. Even if a position like this is a No Double, the intermediate player who tosses the dice without giving it an actual thought is making a conceptual (or perhaps procedural) mistake.
