What happens now?

During the opening roll in a game I played yesterday my opponent rolled his single die on my side of the board. Our dice collided. I rolled a 1. He rolled a 3. I told him to reroll on his side of the board. He rolled another 3 and then insisted that my 1 should stand. I was of the opinion that since his roll interfered with mine I should be allowed to roll again. We resolved the issue amicably and it was no big deal. I rolled again and we continued our match. Anyways, I am interested to know what the forum has to say on this. Would it make any difference if our dice hadn't collided?
