Contrast vs the situation where White's 4 prime is moved back to being from the 5 thru 8 points and White's game is then no where near as strong. He will win fewer G and suffer more turnarounds.

In the text position, White, while he has no builders, often just slots the back of the 5 or even 6 prime and face no real opposition if Blue cannot roll a small number to split and Blue needs some of those rolls containing small numbers to make his points.

In the text position the 8 shots are very strong and White is certainly happy to roll 66 55 or 33.
