But that can't be true -- the outcome of a game between two perfect players will be completely determined by luck!

Just because superior skill is not a factor in the outcome doesn't mean that skill is not.

A perfect player will do a lot better against a perfect player than a mediocre player will, so skill is definitely a factor in the outcome.
