I guess that in that wild variant one would have to roll when at the bar.

That would make sloting really risky business, and tandem backgammon very cruel game :D

That is indeed the reason why I am too keen on variants which give choices over one's rolls. It was just in case the principal Tandem variant felt too much like backgammon :-)
