Then why use a bot at all? Surely a better bot is just around the corner, and why learn from a program that sometimes gives wrong information?

I stand by my premise. Studying by using the best available information from any and all sources and trying to derive useful concepts from it is the best that you can do. If you have the time and patience and can produce your own even better information, then so much the better. When the data is conflicting, as it sometimes is, then choose the play that best fits the concepts you have built - or choose the play that best fits your game style.

Note that when plays are close, even if one is agreed by all sources to be correct, it can be instructive to understand the close second choices. A couple of rolls later, something may be slightly different and the change can tip the balance in favor of the other play.

Keep in mind that while it helps, nobody is going to become a great player just by memorizing how to play the first 2 rolls of the game. If you can't learn from the results so that you can apply the concepts throughout the early game, it will be hard to improve.

Yes, it is hard to learn something and later have to unlearn it. But if you can't adapt to ever changing understandings, why bother trying? You need to understand that our knowledge is imperfect and occasionally changes, but as a total mass of knowledge, it is moving in the right direction. The wave may toss you around, but you will get where you want to go faster if you try to ride it rather than avoid it.
