My 4 favorite things about truncated rollouts:

1. Each trial is faster than a full rollout.

2. They have low random error, so you can use much fewer trials.

3. You can tailor them in many different ways, e.g.: (1) Short truncation for very fast, very low random error. (2) Long truncation for sort of fast, pretty low random error. (3) Stepped rollouts, where the truncated part uses more lookahead, and the rest uses less lookahead.

4. They bug Chuck. (That's gotta be worth something! :-))
