As I'm sure you realize (but I make the point for other reasons), there is a broader spectrum than simply truncated vs. full. You can start off with 0-ply eval, then go to higher levels of eval. For truncation you have choices on how many levels of RO before truncation. For full rollouts you can run 0-ply play or 2-ply play.
It would be an interesting study for someone to actually try many of these for a range of available computation times.
I've never been one to get too hung up on limited computation time as it has been my experience (not for BG rollouts, but I still wonder) that many people leave their computers idle all night long (or turned off -- at least they're not wasting energy). And another point is that some people have low levels of patience -- when trading off a quick answer for a longer wait time (but with better reliability) they settle for fast gratification. Of course even here there's a tradeoff: if you wait too long to get the answer you forget why you asked the question. :)
