When I've recorded other peoples' matches, the worst problems for me have come during the bearoff as these tend to move so quickly that I can't get things written down.

This doesn't apply as much to recording other ppl's matches unless you know both parties involved, but when recording my own matches I stop recording once it gets into a straight race and mark down whoever wins the game/how many points. If a cube decision happens to come up (usually it doesn't) then you can note the position quickly if you like, but again, if it's something boring and standard I skip over it. I'm recording the match to find holes in my game/interesting decisions. There's no need to write down a straight race/bearing in/bearing off.
