Thanks Timothy; I'd missed the tail end of that discussion.

Tom's idea is similar to mine, I see. Tom's has the advantage that the spacing will be consistent, even with proportional fonts. Mine is less cluttered because it uses a space instead of a + sign; it also breaks the text up into "words" of about 7 characters rather than a single long string, which might be easier to parse, at least for those brought up reading English.
