The problem with your idea is that it seems that the loser of rd 1 gets nothing while if a player who didn't get the bye wins both matches he gets all the money while the other two get nothing.

Figure out how much you want to pay for third place, and pay out that much to each player. Then play for what's left using Bill's method.

One thing that's attractive about this system is that if an anti-bye player wins it, his opponents, having performed equally (0-1), get identical money.
