Good to see that common sense prevailed. This method is completely fair and ends the event in two rounds just like if there were 4 players. The bye has no value other than to allow a player to rest and also to give the player who gets the bye a 50% chance at the trophy and title rather than a 25% chance.

To me this is the obvious solution and it is also the one Patrick Gibson used for LA doubles a year back when he had 24 entrants.
