In all honesty no one knows who would have won the game if McCoy had not been hurt. What we do know is that Alabama was projected to be the better team by the experts. Could McCoy have made a huge difference in the game? Sure. Gilbert had his first pass dropped and proceeded to play an atrocious half. But he played very well, up until the last two minutes, in the second half and I doubt McCoy would have played much better. Also, you are neglecting that Ingram, who pounded the nations number one rush defense for 116 yards, got banged up and had no carries for over 15 minutes of the second half. Another factor is that Saban is a defense first type of coach. He is overly conservative when he has a lead. Combining that with Ingram being out for a significant time facilitated Texas' comeback. I was rooting for Texas and especially after McCoy was hurt. It would have been great if Gilbert had carried them to victory. McCoy's leadership on the sideline in the second half was inspiring.
