As Neil pointed out, the time aspect may have contributed to the error. Occasionally almost anyone can get into a time bind, some obviously much more often than others; however, those that 'toy' with the time (for lack of a better word) -- such as UBK and MCG, who seem to always want to end the match with as little time remaining as possible -- may be more vulnerable to such gaffes when presented with a particularly difficult cube or checker decision with very little time left.

Sure, most Championship players can play reasonably well for some extended period of time using just the twelve second delay -- but there are the occasional very difficult decisions in very critical situations that demand more extensive consideration than afforded by twelve seconds.
