Nope I am not sure that XG 4 ply replies correctly here, nor I am sure that the bot follows up correctly on the next roll for the 62 responder. However, I could say that same thing for other bots as well. I do expect that all of the bots here will make an occasional mistake on the 3rd or 4th roll of the game.
If something is blatantly wrong and common, it could skew the results somewhat.
However, what I trust is simply to use the best bot setting possible since this position usually becomes typical backgammon. According to the Depreli bot study, XG 5 ply play, 4 ply cube is the best setting that one could use for RO's. But, even with this fast overclocked i7 computer, opening RO's with XG 5 ply play take extremely long and will use more computer time than I am willing to devote. Therefore I am doing 4 ply both, which is a clearly stronger setting than has been previously used to study the openings and responses.
So what I am saying is what I firmly believe and that is that opening RO's using the strongest settings are more likely to come closer to producing the exact truth for which play is best.
In this case since I have been usually playing Z the past few years, and since S is winning this RO by a margin larger than shown by other bots, I will definately take a look at how XG 4 ply continues to see what I can learn and to see if it is making some clear errors.
