I had a similar problem.Try following this advice from Xavier Dufare de Citres:

"You will need to transfer your activation to the new system in order to use it:

When the program open and the registration dialog opens: • Click on the “Activation manager” button • Enter your activation key • Press “Get Status” • It will list your previous activation • Select your previous activation • Press “Deactivate” • Then press “Activate this PC”

When this process didn’t work I received the following supplementary guidance which solved the problem:

"The upgrade should have kept all your setting and your activation

Try to download and run www.extremegammon.com/clearXGkey.exe

Then XG should start and you’ll just need to activate it."
