The amount of MONEY at stake should be the remotest thing from your thought process. That is the kind of illogic that leads people in money play to conclude that the position is a take on a 2-cube but a drop on an 8-cube. Wrong.

As a rule of thumb, time spent should be correlated with the amount of MATCH equity (not money) that is potentially at stake on the decision. You'd take more time to consider a 4-cube than a 2-cube, more so if the position is gammonish. You'd take more time to consider the big volatile play that throws the whole game on the line. But no matter how unclear the decision is, you'd likely not spend much time deliberating over how to play a random outfield ace when your opponent has two checkers on the roof.
