Containmentl conundrum

This type of position has been giving me fits lately. I think that I've got a decent handle on the checker play, but I consistently underestimate the strength of my position and miss a ton of doubles as a result. How do you look at this and reach the right conclusion? Is it as simple as an ace losing my market?
