In a few days, Intel will release the i7-980X which will be 6 core HT, unlike the current i7's which are 4 core HT. This will represent an instant 50% increase in XG and GNU RO capability since both programs have no issues using 12 threads. The real gain for many will be greater since the i7-980X is 3.33 Ghz and is supposed to be great for overclocking. Even on a stock chip, I expect XG to calibrate at almost 3 mil/sec. With talk about overclocking well past 4.0 Ghz from samples, I am hopeful to get mid/upper 4's and push XG cal to close to 4 million.
I hope that in a couple of months the fact the high end chips and computer systems are now 6 core will reduce the price of 4 core somewhat.
... neilkaz ... looking forward to an uber-state of the art computer
