Doubling Sportmanship Question

In an match on line the other day, in the Quantum Leap (Warp Gammon) tourney, I cubed in the following position.

The score (after 0 games) is: MandM1951 0, Opp 0 (match to 9 points)

Move number 41: MandM1951 on roll, cube decision?

My opponent then typed in the chat window, "are you an idiot

and this is how you play?

disgusting"

S/he then called me a "pig."

Was it somehow inappropriate for me to double in this position? Should I have just rolled and taken my 2 points?

Was it inappropriate for my opp to call me an idiot, disgusting, and a pig?
