It's an interesting question whether this is easier than DASH. For various reasons, I happen to know the correspondence between the numbers 1-26 and the letters of the alphabet very thoroughly. I know that I is 9 and 20 is T and M is 13 and so on without having to think about it. For someone who doesn't already have this correspondence internalized, though, it's not clear to me that it's easier to remember than DASH.
