Cubeless backgammon

When has a move a higher cubeful equity than another move but a lower cubeless equity? The only thing that comes to my mind is if you avoid jokers of the opponent, if you can double him out at the next opportunity.
Not always. See

In a cubeless game 12/9*/5 has the higher cubeless equity. But 12/5 has the higher cubeful equity, if Blue has the cube. If Blue plays 12/9*/5 he can double out 70% of the time (whenever opponent fans). But 12/5 is the better play even though after 12/5 Blue usually cannot double out. Blue has an immediate double out about 25% of the time after 12/5. About 28% of the time he'll have an immediate double in, and most of the rest of the time he'll eventually double, but not immediately.
