Help understanding the right play

Over the board, I expect that I would play 22/20 instantly because you can argue all you want about the better contact of the 22 point, etc. But this game has lots of play left and the 20 point is the 20 point and it always will be.

But looking further at the position, I am inclined to agree with your play but for a purely technical reason. With the stripped midpoint, our opponent's entry with either a 15 or 35 forces a horrible choice between busting the midpoint or burying a checker on the ace point. Shifting off the 22 point anchor creates a playable 5.
