On the opening roll I remember it is a little better to split than playing two down with 5-2. With XG having escaped a checker, my thinking would be that it is now more important to increase the number of shots on the last back checker in those sequences where XG runs without escaping and simultaneously increase my chances of quickly strengthening my board for those sequences where we hit loose, so I would feel two shots is acceptable. Had it been a position where the last checker had been more advanced in our homeboard, I see the split being better for coverage in those few sequences where the last checker "comes round" and the number of indirect shots after 13/11 perhaps being too high compared to the gain, when the last checker is not on the ace. Although I can't say for sure if the change in the position compared to the opening is enough to swing it, I vote for 13/8 13/11.
