"Can somebody explain to me European, what is relationship between various american tournament directors, ABT and USBGF? "

There is no organization in the US that runs tournaments. Tournaments in the US have always been run by independent directors.

Bill Davis created the ABT in the early 90s as a way of generating interest in tournament backgammon. The ABT is not an organization. It is a master points system maintained by Bill that takes results from a set of recognized ABT tournaments on a calendar year basis. There are a few minor requirements for an event to participate in the ABT and thus be able to award master points to its attendees (for example, the event must be a multi-day event). There are also some standards such as the tournament rules and procedures. Proposed changes to rules are discussed amongst various directors and agreed.

The USBGF is an actual organization formed within the past several months dedicated to growing the game of backgammon (not just live tournaments) and providing benefits and advocacy for the players. There are players as well as directors volunteering their time to help this organization achieve its goals.

Directors will continue to operate their tournaments and the ABT will continue to maintain its master point system that tie many these tournaments together. The USBGF seeks to help and enhance - to bring new players into the game; to create establish mutually beneficial relationships with directors where it makes sense; to help create standards and to work with our international partners to achieve consensus and consistency; to add value and enjoyment to these events; to understand the needs and desires of our community and to be an advocate for them. The USBGF will gather information from these same events for the purpose of player ratings and statistics. Over time, the USBGF may develop additional master points systems that supplement but do not replace the ABT system.
