I have observed that relative to money play, gammons are almost always more valuable in match play of surprisingly long lengths, and for the most part regardless of who is ahead.
In general, match points become more valuable as you move toward the goal. So it is not surprising that in match play with even score you should be more willing to give up 2 points than to risk losing 4 points.
This is an interesting line of thought. However, couldn't one also argue that in match play, you should be more willing to risk losing 4 points for the sake of a chance to win 8 points?
I'm not sure if it's legitimate to argue that in general we expect long matches at an even score to drop more quickly than for money.
