You start with 4 points. You can peel of 7 checkers while keeping the 4 points. Then if you break one of the 4 remaining points with 2 each, you create two additional blots, so you need to delete one blot by piling it up on a point with 2. So you have 8 blots and 3 points, one with 3 and 2 with 2. Next turn you can peel off one from the 3, 9 blots, 3 point with 2 each. But by doing this, you will have moved one checker past the point in front of it. There are already 13 checkers on the mid, 8 and 6 point in the starting position, so if you do this, you run into space problems. For example, if you pile on the 6, from the 8, you can do this only once, but if you do it a second time, you will not be able anymore to break the 6 point, because all space is gone. The best you can do is pile 4 on one point, and 11 blots.

It is a function from the starting position, if you move the midpoint and 8 point backwards sufficiently, the answer becomes 15.
