Real Backgammon

I would like to see more discussion of the opening in these forums. I would also like to see more discussion of other parts of the game. I don't see these as conflicting desires.
The "real" problem is that discussions tend to be "I would make this play in this position". Since anyone can get a quick answer from a computer, this has little value. Discussions which enhance understanding are the "real" value of these forums and the study of the game in general.
The largest and most valuable contributors on this forum happen to be opening specialists who are writing and selling books and articles about the opening. Therefore, the best discussions have been on the opening. This is no different than a Chess pro who focuses on the material that is the subject of his writing. It makes sense for our authors to focus on their subject material even if they are strong at the entire game. I would encourage them to continue this practice. In general, our pros are terribly under-compensated for sharing their knowledge. I am in favor of anything they can do which will help them show people the value of their products whether their motivation is commercial or not.
That leaves "real backgammon". More valued discussion of real backgammon would be great. Feel free to help the group fill the void you have identified. I'm sure I speak for everyone in saying that your input would be greatly appreciated.
